The weekend of July 15th was fantastic for DUBC! All DUBC crews put up impressive performances in what was a weekend of challenging conditions.

DUBC’s Club 8+ were victorious in their quest for a pot, winning by the narrowest of margins over Commercial Rowing Club’s 8+. This win was the culmination of the incredible hard work over the course of the season of these athletes and is a testament to their huge resilience, both in training and on the day.

DUBC’s Novices capped off a successful season with two stinging but close losses. On Saturday morning, in the first of the Novice races, the Novice 4x+, Trinity took a length lead at 1000m but, due to inexperience and what can only be described as terrible conditions, UCD ate through this lead to win by a half-length. The next day, the Novice 8+, shaken by the previous results but with fresh confidence from the Seniors Club 8+ win, took to the water. In an incredibly exciting race (a norm for Trinity’s 2023 Novice season), the lead changed hands multiple times through the race. At 1500m, Trinity was hanging on by a half-length, however, in a push that was a tad too much for DUBC’s novices, UCD nabbed the pots by a third-of-a-length. Nevertheless, all held their heads high, proud of an objectively successful season.

DUBC would also like to recognize graduated DUBC rower Mark Quigley for his dominating win in the Club 1x, racing for Lady Elizabeth Boat Club, Trinity’s Men’s Alumni Club.

Mark celebrating a fantastic win

Across the remainder of the weekend, DUBC put up strong performances in the Intermediate 8+, 4+ and 2-. In a weekend that was full of highs and lows, a fantastic season was capped off and DUBC continues on, stronger than ever.
